Lanse Brown and Labrador Retrievers

Lanse Brown was born in 1938 in St. Louis MO. Phillip Barney, who was the State’s Commissioner of Fish and Game raised Lanse in Farmington, Connecticut. Mr. Barney, along with Arthur Bartley, Larry Durkin, Ted Mullikan (Wildfowler Decoys) and others were instrumental in the originating of Ducks Unlimited.

Raised with retrievers, Lanse hunted waterfowl extensively along the Eastern Seaboard; Broad Bill in Li Sound and The Great-South Bay; Geese in Easton, Maryland; Brant in New Jersey; and many species in Poplar Branch (Currituck Sound), North Carolina.

In 1972 Lanse moved to Kalispell, Montana where he was one of the founders of the Flathead Chapter of Ducks Unlimited. Throughout his life Lanse has bee deeply committed to Veterinary Medicine and Research. His original intent for attending Cornell University was to gain entrance ant attend veterinary school.

His commitment to retrievers since 1965 is evident; Brown has qualified, run and finished more National Championships than any other amateur in the history of Retriever Field Trials. For purposes of seasonal retriever training, Lanse maintains two residences one in Banks, Alabama and another in Pendroy, Montana.

Lanse’s latest endeavor, The International Hunting Dog Hall of Fame, brings together a commitment for hunting dogs, their owners, veterinary research and animal health. Brown’s sincere purpose in developing the IHDHoF is to “... honor all breeds of hunting dogs whether they point, flush, tree, catch or retrieve and recognize the special bond between dog and hunter.”

Lanse brings with him over 40 years of successful retriever training. 45 years of close affiliation with schools of Veterinary medicine and the intense love and dedication for his dogs and their health.
